We are now halfway through January, and the madness of December, Christmas, and New Year feels like a distant memory. Indeed, there may only be two reminders of those times. Firstly, those additional pounds we’ve gained by eating and drinking too much. And secondly, the pounds we’ve lost by spending too much. January really can feel like a very long month. However, with half of the first month of the year gone already, we’re perhaps getting sense of how this year is turning out. So, take a moment to reflect and ask yourself. How is 2024 shaping up so far? Is it all that you want, or are you already beginning to despair?
My recommendation at the start of the year was to ditch the New Year’s resolutions, and instead focus on where you want to be at the end of the year. You may have taken that on board. Consequently, you may now be feeling that you’ve set your direction and taken the first positive steps. You have a clear idea of where you want to be at the end of the year. Crucially, you’ve made it all exciting and compelling. And essentially, you understand that your plans may well change, and that’s OK.
Alternatively, you may have had an idea of where you want to be at the end of the year. And yet events, circumstances, people have become an obstacle, a barrier between you and what you want. You can feel your hopes and ambitions slipping from your fingers. Critically, you no longer feel that you are in control. You’ve gone from being at cause to being at effect. Further to this, you may have a sense of déjà vu, that sinking feeling of having been here before.
As with everything in life, this is where you are now. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. It’s what you do next that counts. If all is not as you want it, you can wallow in your despair. You can choose to blame everything and everyone, including yourself, for what is happening. Alternatively, you can stop for a moment and reflect. Ask yourself what you can do to take back control. Think about how to move from being at effect to being at cause. Of course, if all is going well, carry on doing what you’re doing.
If you can do it for yourself, do it now. If you’re not sure, book an initial consultation here, and then take the next step. You know that you can do it, and you know that it makes sense, don’t you?
