Representational Systems Explained

The Scoring

For each of the four sytems you have a score between 12 (the lowest possible score) and 48 (the highest). An average score is 30. The closer you score to 48 with any one representational system, the stronger the preference.

Visual

You tend to process information through pictures, images and what you can see. You may find it easier to understand something when you can visualise it, see an example, or picture the outcome in your mind. You may naturally use phrases such as “I see what you mean”, “that looks right”, or “I can picture that”.

Auditory

You tend to process information through sound, speech and listening. Talking something through, hearing an explanation, or listening to the tone of someone’s voice may be especially important to you. You may naturally use phrases such as “that sounds right”, “I hear what you’re saying”, or “that rings a bell”.

Kinaesthetic

You tend to process information through feelings, physical sensations and experience. You may prefer to get involved, try something for yourself, and notice how something feels. You may naturally use phrases such as “that feels right”, “I can get a handle on that”, or “I’m comfortable with that”.

Auditory Digital

You tend to process information through logic, analysis and internal dialogue. Making sense of information, understanding how something works, and thinking things through carefully may be particularly important to you. You may naturally use phrases such as “that makes sense”, “I understand”, or “let me think about that”.
