Overcoming Addiction Programme.

Believe you can and you're halfway there.

The Overcoming Addiction Programme.

A complex maze, with a route out, just like the route out of addiction.

This is a one-to-one 12 month treatment programme for £500. Initially we complete some intensive work in the first few weeks in which you consider what is and what needs to be in place for you to overcome successfully your addictive behaviour, whatever form that behaviour takes. We subsequently look at life without addiction, what that means for you, and what you need to change to make it happen. Once this work is done, we agree a schedule of face-to-face contact which will take us up to the end of the first six months. We hold a six-month review, we look at what has gone well and what still needs work. We agree next steps and a gradually reducing level of contact, ensuring that you are ready to live without addiction beyond the 12 months.

The first 4 to 6 weeks
Weekly sessions of up to 2 hours in which we complete work around the following:

  • the nature of your addiction
  • the impact of your addiction
  • your pattern of addiction
  • the cost of your addiction
  • what life without addiction is like
  • setting a clear goal for the end of the programme
  • learning to keep a journal
  • establishing how life is now and what you can do to improve it
  • understanding your values
  • understanding your motivation
  • setting goals
  • managing the people in your life
  • learning to use your skills
  • finding alternative behaviours and activities
  • managing urges
  • managing lapse and relapse
  • challenging beliefs about addictive behaviour

This is your programme, though, and if there are additional areas that you feel that you need to work on, we can add these at any time. You may, for example, have faced a specific issue in the past which impacted on your recovery and you may want to see how to address this if it were to happen again.

The first 6 months
Once we have completed the work of the first 4 to 6 weeks, we make a plan for the remainder of the first six months:

  • agreement on frequency of face-to-face contact, with a plan for that level of contact to progressively reduce
  • access to email support
  • a contingency plan if you feel that you are losing control of your addictive behaviour

The final 6 months
This is the time when you are back in control, all of the pieces are in place, and you are in charge of your behaviour. We revisit your goals, we address any lingering concerns, and you prepare for your life after the 12 month programme. You are recovering, you are on track, and you know what you want to do to continue with your success.

Beyond 12 months
You can work for success, you can make changes, you can move forward. You also know that recovery continues and sometimes it helps to talk things through. Ideally, you have a network which includes the right person to have that conversation. Indeed, part of the initial work includes identifying those helpful people who are there to listen.

If, however, you do want further support from me, I can and do offer occasional sessions at a greatly reduced rate.

Methods and Materials.

I am a trained SMART Recovery® facilitator, I am a coach, and I am a trainer of NLP and hypnosis. I use a combination of all of these skills and techniques in the work that I do. Some of them you may have experienced before, and some of them you may not. I will only use hypnosis if you consent to this intervention.

You will have access to a dedicated webpage in which you will be able to revisit all of the materials that we use. I have recorded summaries of each exercises from the first 4 to 6 weeks (a total, at this time, of 17 recordings with a corresponding worksheet and, where necessary, a video to provide further explanation and clarity). Your webpage will also include a summary of our sessions, key points, and next steps. That page will be available to you beyond the 12 months of our programme, and the page is, of course, password-protected.

The Cost.

This is a 12-month addiction treatment programme for £500 for the full year. This includes all of the sessions that we organise throughout the 12 months, access to email support, and access to your own dedicated webpage. There are no other charges or fees.

The best investment you can make is in yourself.
